Wind Sports: Kiteboarding, Wind Surfing, Wing Foiling...

"Kiteboarding is a badass sport for adventurous weirdos" - SB Nation
"(Wing foiling) Is kind of something in between, I don't know, wind surfing and kiting" - Kai Lenny

With consistent northerly winds caused by El Norte winds or the bay’s powerful thermal effect, La Ventana is a haven for kiteboarders, windsurfers, and wingfoilers, earning it the nickname “Hood River South” by enthusiasts. If you don’t know what kiteboarding is, watch this fun video! If you need lessons, we partner with Kitesurfing Planet and Marea Water Sports with whom you can add lessons when you book with us.

Mountaing Biking or Hiking

This region has a great trail system for hiking and mountain biking. Download the Trailsforks app for mt bike trails and the AllTrails app for mostly hiking trails, although, most mountain bike trails can be hiked. Just don’t hike up in a black downhill-only bike trail, please! Bikes can be rented from The Bike Hub, Tatehuari Experience, and La Ventana Windsports, among other places. The Bike Hub also offers guided bike and hike tours in Rancho Cacachiles. It is worth paying once!

And definitely bike the giant Cardon Cactus Forest in the south bay. Unique!

Snorkeling

The Sea of Cortez was called the "Aquarium of the World" by Jacques Cousteau for its incredibly diverse marine ecosystem and it's home to a wide variety of marine life, including coral reefs, dolphins, whales, mobula rays, and more. Marine life adventures can be booked directly in our site, supported by Agua Salada or Te Ma'o Expeditions. Local snorkeling can be done by yourself as well, and it will be great just off rocky points along the beach, the Hot Springs or further away, in Bahia Los Sueños or Punta Arenas.

Snorkel with Whale Sharks

We are separating this activity from the Snorkeling options in or near La Ventana because this incredible experience is provided only by authorized tours that depart off La Paz main port. We are working on a partnership with a local and approved tour company to offer this activity to our guests. We will update this guide as soon as details are worked out.

Scuba Diving

The Sea of Cortez is home to a huge variety of marine life, including coral reefs, dolphins, sharks, orcas, hump whales, mobula rays, and a lot more. If you want to experience something unforgettable in the “Aquarium of the World”, per Jacques Cousteau, you must go diving. Dive adventures can be booked directly with us in our site, supported by Te Ma'o Expeditions.

Fishing & Spearfishing

Fishing was once the main activity in La Ventana & El Sargento for a reason! The town’s proximity to the rich waters of Sea of Cortez makes it an ideal spot for anglers, which can catch big fish such as Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and more. There are numerous charter services offering guided fishing tours, ensuring both novice and experienced fishermen can enjoy the thrill of the catch. While we work on a direct partnership with a charter, check out Fishing with Lalo. For spearfishing, ask Luis Diego Geraldo, who is a local outdoors enthusiast and can guide tours.

Kayaking

Kayaking is one of the most inclusive water sports for all ages! In La Ventana / Cerralvo Bay you have miles and miles of terrain to kayak. This is a sport to do in the morning during windy season (Nov-March) or any time off windy season (April-Oct).

Stand-Up Paddling (SUP)

Like kayaking, there is endless surface to enjoy stand-up paddling. It does require a little more balancing but it is highly rewarding. In a light wind day, you can go for a downwinder to the end of the bay or in calm morning, we suggest start going north and come back south. SUPs can be rented from La Ventana Windsports or Captain Kirk's

Downwind SUP Foiling

If you are an adrenaline seeker and are in great condition, you should get into the latest of the adrenaline seeking wind/water sports -downwinders with a foil SUP. This is probably the hardest of all water sports you see in this bay, but if you get it, you have rewarding 10+ miles of endless swells in a windy day!

Exercise Classes

From yoga to capoeira classes that harmonize with the serene environment to eco-tours that showcase the region’s biodiversity, there’s a wealth of activities to immerse oneself in the local vibe.
